COSTILLA CO-
937 PM MDT WED JUL 23 2014

...THE ARROYO AND SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL
1100 PM MDT FOR CENTRAL COSTILLA COUNTY...

AT 935 PM MDT...DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED ONLY LIGHT RAIN OVER THE
ADVISORY AREA AS THUNDERSTORMS HAVE MOVED TO THE SOUTHWEST TOWARD
THE NEW MEXICO BORDER. HOWEVER...RUNOFF FROM EARLIER HEAVY RAIN
WILL CAUSE ARROYO AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING FOR THE NEXT
HOUR...ESPECIALLY IN THE AREA BETWEEN SAN ACACIO AND FORT GARLAND.

SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE...
SAN LUIS AND SAN ACACIO.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO
AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY
DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL
ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED
ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF CENTRAL...EAST
CENTRAL...SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST COLORADO.

.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT

ISOLATED AFTERNOON AND EVENING THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED OVER THE
MOUNTAINS TODAY. THE PLAINS SHOULD REMAIN GENERALLY DRY.

PRIMARY STORM THREATS WILL BE LIGHTNING...WIND GUSTS TO AROUND 50
MPH...AND SPOTTY HEAVY RAINFALL. THE THREAT FOR SEVERE WEATHER IS
LOW TODAY DUE TO WEAK WIND SHEAR.

RESULT IN LOCALIZED FLASH FLOODING.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY

THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP OVER AND NEAR THE MOUNTAINS EACH
