URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ALBUQUERQUE NM
440 AM MST MON DEC 22 2014

...POTENT WINTER STORM SYSTEM TO BRING ACCUMULATING SNOW TO MUCH
OF NORTHERN AND EASTERN NEW MEXICO...

.A POTENT UPPER LEVEL JET STREAM AND AN ASSOCIATED MOIST WEATHER
DISTURBANCE ALOFT WILL BRING INCREASED PERIODS OF SNOW TO THE
NORTHERN MOUNTAINS OF NEW MEXICO AND THE EASTERN PLAINS TODAY AND
TONIGHT. SNOWFALL WILL BECOME MOST PERSISTENT AND OCCASIONALLY
HEAVY OVER THE HIGH TERRAIN THIS AFTERNOON THEN OVER PORTIONS OF
EASTERN NEW MEXICO TONIGHT. THE HEAVIEST ACCUMULATIONS WILL OCCUR
WITHIN THE SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS. SNOW WILL TAPER OFF FROM
NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST AND EXIT THE EASTERN PLAINS ON TUESDAY
MORNING. THE COMBINATION OF SNOW AND BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES
MOVING INTO THE AREA WILL CREATE HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS
THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING.

8 AM MST TUESDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBUQUERQUE HAS ISSUED A WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT
FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 8 AM MST TUESDAY.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...1 TO 3 INCHES.

* TIMING...SNOW WILL DEVELOP EARLY THIS EVENING THEN INCREASE IN
  COVERAGE AND INTENSITY OVERNIGHT BEFORE TAPERING OFF TUESDAY
  MORNING.

* WINDS...NORTH TO NORTHEAST 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 40 MPH
  THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT.

* SNOW LEVELS...SNOW LEVELS WILL FALL TO ALL LOCATIONS THROUGH
  THIS EVENING.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...THE COMBINATION OF SNOW...BLOWING SNOW...AND
  COLD TEMPERATURES WILL REDUCE VISIBILITY AND CREATE SNOW PACKED
  AND ICY ROADS. TRAVEL WILL BE IMPACTED ON INTERSTATES 25 AND
  40...HIGHWAYS 60...54...285...AND 70.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MEANS THAT
VISIBILITIES WILL BE RESTRICTED DUE TO A COMBINATION OF FALLING
AND BLOWING SNOW.
