...A HARD FREEZE EXPECTED FRIDAY NIGHT...

.A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL PASS SOUTHEAST THROUGH THE SOUTHERN
APPALACHIANS TONIGHT...ALLOWING MUCH COLDER AIR TO SETTLE OVER THE
REGION BY FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING.

SEVERAL HOURS OF AT OR BELOW 32 DEGREES ARE LIKELY..WITH LOW
TEMPERATURES DROPPING INTO THE 20S ACROSS THE FREEZE WATCH AREA.
COLDER LOW TEMPERATURES...IN THE TEENS...WILL OCCUR OVER THE
HIGHEST ELEVATIONS BY SATURDAY MORNING. HOWEVER...NO BERRIES ARE
GROWING IN THOSE LOCATIONS...NOR ARE FRUIT TREES BLOOMING AT THIS
TIME.

LOW TEMPERATURES SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING MAY BE AS COLD
OR SLIGHTLY COLDER THAN SATURDAY MORNING...SO BE PREPARED FOR A
SECOND VERY COLD NIGHT.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MORRISTOWN HAS ISSUED A FREEZE
WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH
SATURDAY MORNING.

* EVENT...A HARD FREEZE EXPECTED WITH LOWS IN THE 20S.

* TIMING...TEMPERATURES FALLING BELOW 32 DEGREES AFTER MIDNIGHT AND
  NOT WARMING ABOVE FREEZING UNTIL MID MORNING SATURDAY.

* IMPACTS...THE PROLONGED PERIOD OF FREEZING TEMPERATURES COULD
  KILL STRAWBERRY PLANTS...AND ALSO DAMAGE THE BLOOMS OF ANY FRUIT
  TREES IN THE WATCH AREA.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FREEZE WATCH MEANS SUB-FREEZING TEMPERATURES ARE POSSIBLE.
THESE CONDITIONS COULD KILL CROPS AND OTHER SENSITIVE VEGETATION

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST NORTH
CAROLINA...EAST TENNESSEE AND SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT...

A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH THE EASTERN TENNESSEE VALLEY
AND SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS LATER TODAY. STRONG WINDS WILL ACCOMPANY
THIS FRONT...AS IT MOVES EAST ACROSS THE APPALACHIANS BY TONIGHT.

THE AIR MASS AHEAD OF THE FRONT WILL BECOME SLIGHTLY UNSTABLE AS
TEMPERATURES REACH THE 60S AND 70S AHEAD OF THE FRONT. THIS SHOULD
ALLOW SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS TO DEVELOP...MAINLY IN THE AFTERNOON
AND EARLY EVENING. ISOLATED STRONG STORMS COULD DEVELOP WITH GUSTY
SOUTHWEST WINDS.

A MUCH COLDER AIR MASS WILL MOVE INTO THE REGION TONIGHT. RAIN
SHOWERS TONIGHT WILL CHANGE TO SNOW SHOWERS HIGHEST ELEVATIONS
SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA AND EAST TENNESSEE BY FRIDAY MORNING. LITTLE
ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...

RAIN SHOWERS FRIDAY WILL CHANGE TO SNOW SHOWERS FRIDAY NIGHT AND
EARLY SATURDAY. LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE POSSIBLE...MAINLY OVER
SOUTHWESTERN VIRGINIA AND THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF EASTERN
TENNESSEE FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING.
