THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBANY HAS EXTENDED THE

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  NORTHWESTERN SCHOHARIE COUNTY IN EAST CENTRAL NEW YORK...

* UNTIL 315 AM EDT

* AT 1129 PM EDT...LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS REPORTED FLASH
  FLOODING FROM EARLIER HEAVY RAINFALL OVER THE WARNED AREA.

* LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO SHARON
  SPRINGS.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS CONTINUE TO REPORT NUMEROUS ROADS
CLOSED IN AND AROUND THE SHARON SPRINGS AREA.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...COUNTRY ROADS...AS WELL AS FARMLAND ALONG THE
BANKS OF CREEKS AND STREAMS.

MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO
AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY
DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL
ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED
ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.

* AT 1104 PM EDT...LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS REPORTED FLASH
  FLOODING FROM A THUNDERSTORM OVER THE WARNED AREA.

* LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO TRIBES
  HILL...ST. JOHNSVILLE...MAYFIELD...FORT PLAIN...FORT JOHNSON...
  EPHRATAH...DOLGEVILLE AND BROADALBIN.

NUMEROUS ROADWAYS REMAIN CLOSED TO DUE TO ONGOING FLOODING. THESE
INCLUDE...BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO...ROUTE 5 AND 5S...ROUTE 30A IN
MONTGOMERY COUNTY WEST TO THE HERKIMER COUNTY LINE...AND THE NEW
YORK STATE THRUWAY NEAR EXIT 27.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...COUNTRY ROADS...AS WELL AS FARMLAND ALONG THE
BANKS OF CREEKS AND STREAMS.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODING. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT QUICKLY. MOVE
UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS
SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.

* THE RIVER IS FORECAST TO CONTINUE RISING TO NEAR 8.6 FEET AROUND 2 AM
  FRIDAY. THE RIVER IS FORECAST TO FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE AFTER 4 AM
  FRIDAY.
* IMPACT...AT 8.0 FEET...THE CREEK IS OUT OF ITS BANKS AND FLOODS
