April 2009

  • Both Tulsa and Fort Smith were slightly cooler and slightly wetter than normal this April.
  • McAlester recorded an all-time record daily low for April: 24 deg F on April 7, 2009. The previous coldest low temperature for any day in April was 25 deg F, which had occurred on 4/2/1962, 4/3/1975, and 4/13/1957.
  • The beginning of April was dry, then conditions became very wet by the end of April.
  • The Neosho River near Commerce went above flood stage 3 times this April. There was also flooding along the Verdigris River near Lenapah, the Caney River near Collinsville and the Poteau River near Panama.
  • La Nina came to an end in April. The Climate Prediction Center issued the Final La Nina Advisory and ENSO neutral conditions are expected through the summer.
