The National Weather Association will hold its 21st Annual Meeting December 1-6, 1996, at the Holiday Inn Cocoa Beach Oceanfront Resort in Cocoa Beach, Florida. The conference theme will center on "The Thunderstorm," which is the title of the 1949 monograph by Horace Byers and Roscoe Braham which documented results of the Thunderstorm Project conducted in Florida (1946) and Ohio (1947). A 50-year reunion of participants in this historic project will be held in conjunction with the meeting.

The tremendous pace of recent technological developments in storm analysis and forecasting, especially as seen with new Doppler radar systems, enhanced satellite data, and modeling capabilities, make this an excellent time to consider the state of the science and focus on future directions. The Program Committee welcomes papers which will relate this theme to a wide variety of topics such as:

The agenda will consist of oral presentations, poster sessions, training workshops, exhibits, and panel discussions. Special training sessions oriented to media weathercasters will be scheduled for December 1-2. As always, all sessions will be open to everyone. Individual authors and agencies wishing to make presentations or conduct workshops are requested to submit one page abstracts by August 1, 1996 to:

Submissions by e-mail are encouraged. Submissions by regular mail should include a disk copy of the abstract. Please indicate a desire for poster, oral, or workshop session and include a mailing address, phone number, e:Mail address, and an indication of required audiovisual equipment. A special effort will be made to accommodate all submissions. Notification of abstract acceptance will be sent to all respondents by October 1, 1996.
