NWS Tallahassee's New Office on FSU Campus Dedicated April 19, 2002
The new Tallahassee National Weather Service office, located next to the Meteorology Dept. on the Florida State University campus, was dedicated on Friday, April 19, 2002. The main reason for the collocation is to foster collaboration between the academic community at Florida State University and the meteorological staff at the forecast office. Details about this collaboration, as well as comments from NWS and FSU officials, can be found in the attached press release. Photographs of the event are included below.

The National Weather Service in Tallahassee completed its move to the FSU campus on Friday, March 1. At 4:00 PM that day, the facility became operational and this moment was captured in the picture above. The first products were issued from the new office that evening. The four-story addition to FSU's Love Building is jointly used by the National Weather Service and the University. The Love Building is currently home to the Department of Meteorology, as well as the Departments of Computer Science and Math. Our new mailing address, phone and FAX numbers can be found at the lower left corner of this page.

The NWS occupies the fourth floor and the basement (used for storage). Weather balloons are launched from the roof of the new building. The FSU Meteorology Department currently uses the third floor of the building. The Departments of Computer Science and Math occupy the first and second floors. A picture of the completed facility is included below. A virtual tour of the interior of the new facility is now available as well.
