Locating Climate (or Past Weather) Information

The majority of climate (or past weather) data is available through the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). However, locating the data you need can be a daunting task.  Following are instructions to locate different types of climate information.

Choose the type of data you are trying to find?
  • Daily Products - these products are issued everyday by the National Weather Service and include high/low/average temperatures, precipitation, degree days, winds, etc.
  • Monthly Products - these products are issued once a month by the National Weather Service and include high/low/average temperatures, precipitation, degree days, winds, etc.
  • Hourly Observations - hourly/daily data including temperatures, precipitation, winds, visibility, weather, sky cover, pressure, etc.
  • Daily/Monthly Data Publications - daily/monthly data including high/low/average temperatures, precipitation, degree days, winds, etc.
  • Yearly Data Publications - monthly/yearly data including average temperatures, precipitation, degree days, winds, etc.
  • Normals (or Averages) - daily/monthly/seasonal/yearly data including average temperatures, precipitation, and degree days.
  • Records - daily/monthly data including temperatures and precipitation.
