| Virtual Office Tour - Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) |
![]() |
Human weather observers were an integral part of the NWS organization until the 1990s. During that decade, the first Automated Surface Observing Systems (ASOS) were fielded and eventually replaced the human observers. The Tallahassee ASOS is located at the Regional Airport. ASOS consists of a variety of sensors (pictured at right) that measure everything from temperature and wind to visibility and cloud ceiling height.
