...JULY WAS HOTTER AND DRIER THAN NORMAL FOR TALLAHASSEE... 

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE NORMALS AND DEPARTURES FROM NORMAL MENTIONED IN 
THIS STATEMENT ARE BASED ON THE PREVIOUS 30-YEAR NORMALS FOR THE 
PERIOD 1971 TO 2000. THE NEW 30-YEAR NORMALS FOR THE PERIOD 1981 TO 
2010 DID NOT GO INTO EFFECT UNTIL AUGUST 1ST.  

THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE FOR JULY IN TALLAHASSEE WAS 83.5 
DEGREES...1.1 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE DURING 
THE MONTH WAS 100 DEGREES ON THE 31ST. THERE WERE NO TEMPERATURE 
RECORDS TIED OR BROKEN DURING THE MONTH.   

RAINFALL AT THE TALLAHASSEE REGIONAL AIRPORT FOR JULY MEASURED 4.28 
INCHES...3.76 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. THERE WERE 14 DAYS WITH 
MEASURABLE RAINFALL DURING THE MONTH WHICH WAS 2 BELOW NORMAL. THE 
GREATEST AMOUNT IN A 24-HOUR PERIOD WAS 1.25 INCHES ON THE 10TH 
THROUGH 11TH. THERE WERE 19 DAYS WITH THUNDER REPORTED AT THE 
AIRPORT WHICH WAS NORMAL. THE PEAK WIND GUST WAS 40 MPH FROM THE 
EAST ON THE 4TH. 

SO FAR IN 2011 EVERY MONTH HAS BEEN DRIER THAN NORMAL FOR 
TALLAHASSEE. RAINFALL FOR THE FIRST 7 MONTHS OF THE YEAR MEASURED 
ONLY 21.75 INCHES WHICH WAS 18.21 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. JANUARY 
THROUGH JULY OF 2011 WAS THE 5TH DRIEST 7 MONTH PERIOD TO START A 
NEW YEAR. THE DRIEST WAS IN 2000 WHEN ONLY 16.10 INCHES WAS 
RECORDED. 

THE OUTLOOK FOR AUGUST FROM THE CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER CALLS FOR 
AN ENHANCED CHANCE FOR ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND EQUAL CHANCES 
OF EXPERIENCING ABOVE...NORMAL OR BELOW NORMAL PRECIPITATION. THE 
AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE FOR AUGUST IS 81.8 DEGREES AND NORMAL 
RAINFALL IS 7.35 INCHES.   

ACCORDING TO THE CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER THERE IS A 43% CHANCE FOR 
THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE DURING THE 3-MONTH PERIOD FROM AUGUST 
THROUGH OCTOBER WILL BE HIGHER THAN 77.3 DEGREES...A 32% CHANCE FOR 
THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE TO BE BETWEEN 76. AND 77.3 AND A 25% CHANCE 
TO BE LOWER THAN 76.0 DEGREES. THERE ARE NO 3-MONTH PRECIPITATION 
OUTLOOKS FOR SPECIFIC POINT LOCATIONS AT THIS TIME. HOWEVER...THE 
GENERALIZED OUTLOOK FOR THE TALLAHASSEE AREA CALLS FOR AN ENHANCED 
CHANCE OF EXPERIENCING ABOVE NORMAL PRECIPITATION. THE NORMAL 
3-MONTH RAINFALL FOR TALLAHASSEE IS 15.27 INCHES.
