...The summer of 2012 was the 10th wettest summer on record for
Tallahassee...
The average monthly temperature for August recorded at the
Tallahassee Regional Airport was 81.3 degrees, or 0.5 degrees below
normal. The highest temperature recorded during the month was 95
degrees on the 16th and 31st. The lowest temperature was 69 degrees
on the 21st and 24th. The maximum temperature of 78 degrees on the
20th set a new record low high temperature for that date. The
minimum temperature of 78 degrees on the 28th set a new record high
low temperature for that date.
Rainfall at the Tallahassee Regional Airport for August measured
12.33 inches, or 4.98 inches above normal. There were 23 days with
measurable rainfall during the month which was 8 above normal. The
greatest amount in a 24-hour period was 1.87 inches on the 20th. On
the 17th, 1.44 inches was recorded which set a new record for the
date. There were 18 days with thunder reported at the airport which
was 2 above normal. The peak wind gust was 38 mph from the west
on the 10th.
For climatological purposes summer is defined as the 3 month period
from June 1st through August 31st. The total rainfall for
Tallahassee during the summer of 2012 was 30.25 inches making it the
10th wettest summer on record. This is significant considering that
only 34.81 inches was measured at the Tallahassee Regional Airport
for the entire year of 2011. Also, four of Tallahassee`s wettest
