(Sept. 11, 2007) - National Weather Service Southern Region Acting Director Steven Cooper was the featured speaker this year's Arkansas Emergency Management Association (AEMA) Conference in Fort Smith, Ark. With the theme of "Information You Can Use", the address highlighted recent severe weather events, the latest National Weather Service products and services and developing technologies.
The AEMA also presented a special award to WFO Little Rock Warning Coordination Meteorologist John Robinson. Robinson received a plaque, recognizing his service to the emergency management community. The inscription reads "For your ongoing commitment of time, support and inspiration to Arkansas emergency management endeavors".
Robinson received a standing ovation from the emergency managers when the award was presented. The emergency managers were especially complimentary of the e-mails that he sends whenever severe weather, flash flooding or winter weather is expected in the state.
The AEMA hosts an Annual Emergency Management Conference each fall to bring together Arkansas' emergency managers and responders in order to share the latest in planning, training and technology and to review disaster response and recovery.
