(May 15, 2007) -- John Robinson, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service forecast office in Little Rock, Ark. received the Star Award from the Southwest Service Area of the American Red Cross. In a special ceremony last week, he was recognized for the E-mail alerts he sends to county, state and federal officials and numerous volunteer agencies -- whenever Arkansas is threatened by severe weather, flash flooding or winter weather. Red Cross officials indicated that Robinson was highly praised and nominated for the award by multiple Red Cross chapters.
The award reads
"For your exceptional service to the people of Arkansas and to the American Red Cross. Your warning information to State, Federal and non-governmental agencies keeps Arkansas citizens 'in the know' whenever severe weather is threatening Arkansas. The warnings you issue are well thought out and to the point. You literally take the reader through the process of weather forecasting, explaining eloquently the threats faced and the locations threatened. Forwarded by numerous agencies throughout Arkansas, readers call for the reports when not immediately forwarded. Your warnings give people the time to prepare for severe weather and have surely saved lives. We thank you for your continued support to the Red Cross and Arkansas' preparedness."
National Weather Service Southern Region Acting Director Steven Cooper said, "I would like to add my congratulations to John for this award and for the many innovative activities that take place in the Little Rock office."
