at Annual Alabama Sports Expo

Birmingham Meteorologist Intern Jessica Stroupe and Lead Forecaster Mark Linhares pose with a coach at annual Alabama Sports Expo in Montgomery
Manning a booth at the annual Alabama Sports Expo in Montgomery over the weekend, staffers from Birmingham, Huntsville and Mobile, Ala. and Tallahassee, Fla. reached out to school coaches from throughout the state. Each year, the event draws thousands of Alabama coaches who gather to renew their certifications and visit with various vendors.

The NWS staffers spoke to more than 1,000 coaches providing weather information and handing out brochures focused specifically on lightning and heat safety during outdoor sports activities. They also distributed NOAA Weather and All Hazards Radio brochures, contact sheets for the Weather Forecast Offices serving Alabama and numerous "Lightning Kills - Play it Safe" posters. An F-5 tornado simulator from the Huntsville office was also on display drawing a lot of attention to the booth.
