Speaking at ceremony in the home, NWS Southern Region Director Bill Proenza noted the destruction caused by recent hurricanes in Florida and Alabama as well as the massive destruction wreaked by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. "The National Weather Service was one of dozens of government and private sector partners that joined FLASH's campaign to strengthen America's homes back in the 1990s," he said. "Stronger, safer homes help us achieve our common goal of saving lives and property when disaster strikes." |
