Staffers from WFO El Paso/Santa Teresa made a lot of new friends and weather safety converts at the annual Amigo Air Show in El Paso, Texas (Oct. 22-23). Approximately 800 people visited the National Weather Service booth manned by WCM John Fausett, Senior Forecasters Tom Bird and Dave Hefner, Journeyman Forecasters Mike Langevin and Tony Reynes and Meteorologist Intern Mike Hardiman. They answered questions, scheduled office tours and school talks, provided severe weather awareness information and safety brochures.
The staff also talked about the WFO's new Spanish Language NOAA Weather Radio transmitter. Located in Downtown El Paso, the 1,000 watt transmitter (WNG-652) operates at 162.550 MHz and was the first NOAA Weather radio station in the nation -- dedicated to Spanish Language broadcasts. WFO El Paso/Santa Teresa also operates two English Language transmitters located in El Paso (WXK-25 at 162.475 MHz) and La Cruces, N.M. (WXL-91 at 162.400MHz). |
