Arkansas Cooperative Observer Receives NWS Holm & Stoll Awards
WFO Little Rock WCM John Robinson, DAPM Jimmy Russell, Holm/Stoll Award recipient William Black, HMT Brian Burleson and MIC Renee Fair. |
The National Weather Service presented two prestigious awards to William E. Black, the cooperative weather observer in Mount Ida, Ark. In a ceremony at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Mount Ida, Black was awarded the John Campanius Holm Award. Honored for the timeliness and accuracy of his observations, Black joins other Holm Award recipients who are recognized as being among the best in the United States' cooperative observer network.
Only 26 of the more than 11,000 cooperative weather observers in the United States received this award in 2004. John Campanius Holm was a Lutheran minister who made the earliest known recorded observations in the United States in 1644 and 1645. Black also received the Edward H. Stoll Award, recognizing his 50 years of service as a weather observer. This award is named after Edward H. Stoll, who recorded weather observations at Elwood, Nebraska, for more than 76 years. |
