Stratus. A layered low cloud, sometimes patchy with poorly defined edges. The flat top of stratus clouds is usually caused by a temperature inversion. In this picture, the stratus is evident in the lower half of the image.
The diagonal line in the lower left is a road that disappears in the stratus clouds. Also seen in the image is another layered cloud called Cirrostratus (top half of the picture).
