POLICY REFERENCES ZONE FORECASTS

PRODUCT: Zone Forecasts (ZFP)

REFERENCE: WSOM Chapter C-11

ISSUED BY: All WFOs

PURPOSE: The ZFP is a forecast product designed to provide a forecast for each Zone in the country for a period up to 48 hours and now including an Extended Forecast that goes through DAY 5. There should be sufficient detail to give the general population a clear statement of expected weather conditions within a given zone.

CHANGES: The Zone Forecast will be extended to a 7 DAY forecast starting Nov 1, 2000.

COMMENTS: Zone Forecasts (ZFPs) are normally issued 2 times per day (around 4 AM and 4 PM) with updates as necessary.
