WINTER WEATHER WATCH/WARNING/ADVISORY |
REFERENCE: WSOM Chapter C-42
ISSUED BY: All warning offices
PURPOSE: The WSW is issued when hazardous conditions associated with a winter weather event are occurring, imminent, or expected. These may include snow, freezing rain, sleet, wind chill, or a combination of events. The product may be in the form of a watch (when the event is expected but not imminent), a warning (when the event is occurring/imminent and a threat to life and property), or an advisory (when the event is occurring/imminent and an inconvenience).
CHANGES: OML 4-98 defines the “segmented” format to be utilized in WSW products. For Freeze Warnings, refer to NPW guidance.
COMMENTS: While the product ID for an WSW is cccWSWxxx, the product’s MND header should appear as “URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE”. Each segment of the product should then be headlined with the appropriate watch/warning/advisory. If multiple watches/warnings/advisories are in effect, then the headlines may be combined.
