PRODUCT:  Severe Weather Statement (SVS)

REFERENCE: WSOM Chapter C-40, Sections 4, 7.6

ISSUED BY:  All Warning Offices

PURPOSE:  The SVS is a short-fuse product designed to provide updated information regarding a severe weather event.  SVSs should be only 1-2 sentences in length, providing only the most critical updates regarding the event.

CHANGES:  ROML S-08-2000 defined the role and usage of the SVS.  This ROML makes the SVS less of a summary product and emphasizes its use as a critical update product.

COMMENTS: As indicated above, the SVS should be issued only as a short, quick-hitting product to report ground-truth information or to update the location of a tornado or severe thunderstorm.  It should not contain radar summary or forecast information except for that pertaining specifically to the storm of concern.  During especially dangerous weather, SVSs should be issued as often as every 10 minutes to provide customers with the latest position and movement of a severe weather event.
