PRODUCT: Preliminary Accident Notification Report (OAV)
REFERENCE: WSOM Chapter D-90, Section 5.2
ISSUED BY: All NWS offices for accidents within their County Warning Area (CWA)
PURPOSE: To provide timely, factual, and comprehensive information to the Assistant Administrator for Weather Services and other concerned NWS organizations in order for them to:
a. brief key officials for NOAA and the DOC;
b. respond to queries from outside agencies in the proper perspective;
c. initiate an internal inquiry, if required; and
d. take prompt remedial action, if required.
CHANGES: None
COMMENTS: Shall be submitted on every known or suspected weather-factor aircraft
accident, and on every major aircraft accident. Also, submit regarding
missing aircraft in which weather may be a factor.
