Record Rainfall Recorded at the Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, PR

 

A record 2.92 inches of rain fell at the Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport in San Juan on May 17th, 2010. This surpassed the previous record rainfall for the date of 2.11 inches recorded in 1965. In addition, a record 1.32 inches of rainfall fell at the Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport in San Juan on May 18th, 2010. This tied the previous record of 1.32 inches that was recorded in San Juan on May 18th, 1965. Through May 18th, 2010, a total of 9.21 inches of rainfall has accumulated at the Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport, which is 3.92 inches more than the normal monthly total.

May is the third wettest month of the year across the San Juan Metro area. In fact, with the 9.21 inches of rainfall recorded so far this May, May 2010 still does not rank among the top wettest May's on record (see table below). However the 27.90 inches of rainfall that has been recorded at the Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport in San Juan since January 1st, 2010, represents the wettest start to a year on record. This total is 0.63 inches ahead of 2005 on this date, which ended as the wettest year on record in San Juan (see below).
