June 2012: A Month of Extremes

June 2012 was a month of extremes across Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Over the course of the month, a total of 14 climate records were either tied or broken at the official reporting sites in San Juan, Saint Thomas and Saint Croix.

On July 4^th at 129 pm...the mercury reached 91 degrees at the San Juan Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport. This marked the 36th consecutive day with maximum temperatures of 90 degrees or higher...breaking the old record of 35 days set back in 1981.
