...SIXTH WETTEST JUNE FOR SAN ANGELO AND SEVENTH WETTEST JUNE FOR 
ABILENE...

RAINFALL FOR JUNE WAS MUCH ABOVE NORMAL FOR A LARGE PART OF WEST 
CENTRAL TEXAS. TEMPERATURES AVERAGED BELOW NORMAL FOR ABILENE AND 
SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL FOR SAN ANGELO IN JUNE.

AT ABILENE REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR JUNE WAS 
76.5 DEGREES. THIS WAS 3.3 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL AVERAGE  
TEMPERATURE OF 79.8 DEGREES. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR JUNE WAS 7.36
INCHES. THIS WAS 4.30 INCHES ABOVE THE MONTHLY NORMAL OF 3.06 INCHES.
THIS MARKS THE 7TH WETTEST JUNE ON RECORD FOR ABILENE.

AT SAN ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR JUNE WAS
78.5 DEGREES. THIS WAS 0.7 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL AVERAGE 
TEMPERATURE OF 79.2 DEGREES. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR JUNE AT THE SAN
ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT WAS 4.78 INCHES. THIS IS WHERE THE OFFICIAL
RAINFALL FOR SAN ANGELO IS MEASURED. THIS WAS 2.26 INCHES ABOVE THE 
MONTHLY NORMAL OF 2.52 INCHES. THIS MARKS THE 6TH WETTEST JUNE ON 
RECORD FOR SAN ANGELO. 

MOST OF THE CITY OF SAN ANGELO RECEIVED MUCH GREATER RAINFALL THAN AT 
THE AIRPORT DURING JUNE...DUE TO THE TRACK OF NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS 
WHICH CONTAINED VERY HEAVY RAINFALL. JUNE RAINFALL TOTALS OF 5 TO 10 
INCHES WERE COMMON IN THE CITY. BY COMPARISON...THE OFFICIAL WETTEST 
JUNE ON RECORD FOR SAN ANGELO IS 6.75 INCHES...SET IN 1940. 


JUNE 2003 WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS...

THE FIRST HALF OF JUNE WAS DOMINATED BY A VERY ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN 
IN WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORM COMPLEXES MOVED EASTWARD 
AND SOUTHEASTWARD ACROSS THE REGION...BRINGING SIGNIFICANT SEVERE 
WEATHER EPISODES...VERY HEAVY RAINFALL AND FLASH FLOODING. A TOTAL OF 
140 SEVERE WEATHER REPORTS AND 59 FLASH FLOODING REPORTS WERE RECEIVED 
FROM THESE EVENTS. 

THE SECOND HALF OF JUNE WAS GENERALLY DRY. A WEAK COLD FRONT MOVED 
DOWN ACROSS WEST CENTRAL TEXAS LATE IN THE MONTH...WHICH WAS AN 
UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE. THIS BROUGHT SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. THE 
SHOWERS AND STORMS WERE MOST NUMEROUS ACROSS NORTHERN AND CENTRAL 
SECTIONS OF THE REGION.
