...ABILENE RECEIVES ITS 3RD DRIEST JULY ON RECORD...
...TEMPERATURES REMAIN NEAR SEASONAL NORMALS FOR THE FIFTH CONSECUTIVE 
MONTH...

THE MONTH OF JULY STARTED WITH WARM CONDITIONS AND WIDELY SCATTERED 
SHOWERS. A COLD FRONT PASSAGE ON THE 10TH PRODUCED SCATTERED SHOWERS AND 
THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE REGION AND A FEW DAYS OF BELOW NORMAL 
TEMPERATURES. HOWEVER...DURING THE SECOND HALF OF JULY A LARGE RIDGE OF 
HIGH PRESSURE TOOK CONTROL OF THE WEATHER...RESULTING IN HOT AND MAINLY 
DRY CONDITIONS. WESTERN PORTIONS OF THE REGION RECEIVED SOME RELIEF FROM 
THE HEAT ON THE FINAL DAY OF THE MONTH AS AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE 
PRODUCED SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS WITH LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN.

MOST OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS RECEIVED RAINFALL AMOUNTS THAT WERE NEAR 
OR BELOW NORMAL...EXCEPT FOR ABOVE NORMAL RAINFALL IN PORTIONS OF THE 
CONCHO VALLEY...NORTHERN PORTIONS OF CROCKETT AND SCHLEICHER 
COUNTIES...THE NORTHERN BIG COUNTRY...THE SOUTHERN HEARTLAND INTO  
MENARD COUNTY. AREAS SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 10 AND THE CENTRAL BIG COUNTRY 
RECEIVED THE LEAST RAIN...AS ABILENE REGIONAL AIRPORT ONLY RECEIVED 0.06 
INCH OF RAINFALL...RESULTING IN ITS THIRD DRIEST JULY ON RECORD. THE 
RECORD FOR THE DRIEST JULY IN ABILENE OCCURRED IN 1946 AND 1970 WHEN 
ONLY A TRACE OF RAIN FELL. NORMAL JULY RAINFALL FOR ABILENE IS 2.09 
INCHES. AT SAN ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT...RAINFALL FOR JULY TOTALLED 0.66 
INCH...WHICH WAS BELOW THE NORMAL JULY RAINFALL OF 1.06 INCHES. 
HOWEVER...RAINFALL AMOUNTS WERE HIGHER OVER NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE 
CITY...AND IN AREAS JUST OUTSIDE THE SAN ANGELO CITY LIMITS. 

DESPITE SEVERAL DAYS OF 100 DEGREE HEAT OVER WEST CENTRAL TEXAS LATE IN 
THE MONTH...OVERALL TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE REGION AVERAGED NEAR NORMAL 
FOR THE FIFTH CONSECUTIVE MONTH. AT SAN ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE 
MONTHLY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR JULY WAS 82.6 DEGREES...COMPARED TO THE 
AVERAGE MEAN JULY TEMPERATURE OF 82.7 DEGREES. AT ABILENE REGIONAL 
AIRPORT...THE MONTHLY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR JULY WAS 83.5 DEGREES... 
COMPARED TO THE AVERAGE MEAN JULY TEMPERATURE OF 84.0 DEGREES. NO DAILY 
RECORD HIGHS OR LOWS WERE SET OR TIED IN EITHER CITY THROUGHOUT THE 
MONTH.

A FEW LOCATIONS RECEIVED LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL DURING THE MONTH OF 
JULY. ON THE 10TH...2 TO 3 INCHES OF RAIN WERE REPORTED OVER MUCH OF THE 
HEARTLAND AND INTO MENARD COUNTY. ON THE 12TH...PORTIONS OF SCHLEICHER 
AND MENARD COUNTIES RECEIVED 1 TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN. ON THE 21ST...1 TO 2 
INCHES OF RAIN FELL OVER THE NORTHERN TWO THIRDS OF SAN ANGELO... 
SOUTHERN STERLING COUNTY...AND JUST NORTH OF ANSON IN JONES COUNTY. 
ON THE 30TH...A SMALL PORTION OF NORTHWEST IRION COUNTY RECEIVED BETWEEN 
3 AND 5 INCHES OF RAINFALL. THE MOST WIDESPREAD RAINFALL EVENT OCCURRED 
ON THE 31ST...WITH RAINFALL TOTALS OF 2 TO 3 INCHES REPORTED ACROSS MOST 
OF IRION COUNTY...AND IN NORTHERN PORTIONS OF CROCKETT AND SCHLEICHER 
COUNTIES. ADDITIONAL LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL BETWEEN 2 AND 4 INCHES 
OCCURRED JUST NORTH OF ROBERT LEE...EAST OF HASKELL...AND SOUTH OF ROBY. 
 
NO SEVERE WEATHER WAS REPORTED ACROSS WEST CENTRAL TEXAS IN JULY.
