AT THE ABILENE REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR JULY 
WAS 87.6 DEGREES. THIS WAS 3.6 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE OF 84.0 DEGREES. THIS RANKS AS THE 3TH WARMEST JULY ON
RECORD FOR ABILENE. TOTAL PRECIPITATION WAS ONLY 0.03 INCH. THIS WAS
2.06 INCHES BELOW THE MONTHLY NORMAL OF 2.09 INCHES. 

AT THE SAN ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR JULY 
WAS 87.4 DEGREES. THIS WAS 4.7 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL AVERAGE 
TEMPERATURE OF 82.7 DEGREES. THIS IS THE 3RD WARMEST JULY ON 
RECORD FOR SAN ANGELO. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR SAN ANGELO WAS 0.57 
INCH. THIS WAS 0.49 INCH BELOW THE MONTHLY NORMAL OF 1.06 INCHES. 

JULY 2001 WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS...

HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS PREVAILED ACROSS WEST CENTRAL TEXAS DURING 
JULY...DUE TO THE INFLUENCE OF A PERSISTENT UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE
SYSTEM. THE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURES WERE GENERALLY A FEW DEGREES
ABOVE NORMAL...BUT THE DAILY LOW TEMPERATURES WERE CONSISTENTLY 
SEVERAL DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE NUMBER OF DAYS WHERE TEMPERATURES
REACHED 100 DEGREES OR MORE TOTALED 19 IN ABILENE AND 20 IN SAN 
ANGELO. 

SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRED ON SEVERAL DAYS DURING
THE MONTH...BUT THE AREAL COVERAGE WAS SPOTTY. MANY LOCATIONS 
RECEIVED VERY LITTLE RAIN...WHILE A FEW RECEIVED OVER AN INCH. 

A COUPLE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRED DURING JULY. GOLFBALL SIZE
HAIL WAS REPORTED IN THE VICINITY OF THROCKMORTON ON THE EVENING OF
THE 13TH. GOLFBALL SIZE HAIL ALSO FELL IN THE TOWN OF EARLY IN BROWN 
COUNTY...ON THE LATE EVENING OF THE 14TH.
