DRIEST AUGUST ON RECORD. THE PREVIOUS RECORD DRY AUGUST WAS SET IN 1952...WHEN 
THE MONTHLY RAINFALL WAS TWO HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH. NO RAIN OCCURRED AT THE SAN
ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT DURING THE MONTH...MAKING IT ALSO THE DRIEST AUGUST ON 
RECORD. THE PREVIOUS RECORD DRY AUGUST FOR SAN ANGELO WAS SET IN 1910...1938 
AND 1959...WHEN THE MONTHLY RAINFALL WAS A TRACE. 

IN ABILENE THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 86.9 DEGREES...WHICH WAS

AUGUST MARKED THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE MONTH ACROSS WEST CENTRAL TEXAS WITH VERY
DRY CONDITIONS AND ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES. SIMILAR TO JULY...A PERSISTENT 
RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE ALOFT WAS THE DOMINANT WEATHER FEATURE. ONLY A FEW 
ISOLATED SHOWERS AND STORMS OCCURRED...PRODUCING SPOTTY LIGHT RAINFALL AMOUNTS.
MOST LOCATIONS DID NOT RECEIVE MEASURABLE RAINFALL DURING THE MONTH. BY THE END
OF AUGUST...ABILENE HAD 61 CONSECUTIVE DAYS WITH NO MEASURABLE RAINFALL. IN SAN 
ANGELO THE NUMBER OF CONSECUTIVE DAYS WITH NO MEASURABLE RAIN REACHED 37 BY THE 
END OF THE MONTH. THE DAILY HIGH AND LOW TEMPERATURES WERE CONSISTENTLY ABOVE
