New Webpage Radar Displays
The National Weather Service has implemented a
new radar display across its web pages. It allows the NWS to
combine radar and warning imagery with commonly used topographical
and map features.
Two radar display versions are
available:
ENHANCED (link to http://radar.weather.gov/index.htm)
The ENHANCED (link to Shreveport's
Enhanced Radar Imagery) display includes several selectable
overlays. The looping in the ENHANCED display
utilizes Java. It is strongly recommended that your Java plug-in
be up to date. Although the ENHANCED display
has more features, it does consume high amounts of bandwidth.
Below is an example of the ENHANCED imagery for Shreveport.

STANDARD
(link to http://radar.weather.gov/index_lite.htm)
The STANDARD
(link to Shreveport's
Standard Radar Imagery) display does not include selectable
overlays, and Java is not needed to display the loops. The STANDARD
display is recommended for lower speed network connections and
dial up users.
Switching between ENHANCED and STANDARD
display versions at the radar display page can be done by clicking
on the “Go to:” link above the radar display.
