Wilmer Ray Bailey of Jena, LA
Awarded the John Campanius Holm Award

On October 20th,
the National Weather Service honored Wilmer Ray Bailey
of Jena, Louisiana for his outstanding contribution
to the field of Meteorology as a volunteer weather
observer. Mr. Bailey has acted as a model weather
observer, supporting the National Weather Service
office in Shreveport, LA with over 38 years of dedicated
service.
The John Campanius Holm Award is one of the highest honors the National
Weather Service presents to its volunteer weather observers. Created in
1959, it was developed to recognize the outstanding contribution observers
made to the field of Meteorology. The Holm award is bestowed annually to
no more than 25 observers of a nation-wide network of more than 12,000.

Mr.Wilmer Ray Bailey has an official National
Weather Service station located at his house in Jena, Louisiana.
His station consists of a U.S. standard rain gauge, a new Fisher Porter
rain gauge, and a Nimbus digital thermometer. Reports of temperature
and precipitation at his station are submitted via computer daily,
where the information is processed and archived. This data is later
published in the Louisiana Climatic Data Pubication for Jena.

recognition for his service from members of the
