Awarded the John Campanius Holm Award

On October 26th,
the National Weather Service honored Jessie Fay Barnes
of Henderson, Texas for her outstanding contribution
to the field of Meteorology as a volunteer weather
observer. Ms. Barnes has acted as a model weather
observer, supporting the National Weather Service
office in Shreveport, LA with over 32 years of dedicated
service.
The John Campanius Holm Award is one of the highest honors the National
Weather Service presents to its volunteer weather observers. Created in
1959, it was developed to recognize the outstanding contribution observers
made to the field of Meteorology. The Holm award is bestowed annually to
no more than 25 observers of a nation-wide network of more than 12,000.

Forecast Office to Jessie Fay Barnes of Henderson,
TX.

Ms. Jessie Fay Barnes has an official National
Weather Service station located at her house in Henderson, Texas.
Her station consists of a U.S. standard rain gauge and a Nimbus
digital thermometer. Temperature and precipitation at her station
are submitted to the NWS daily via computer, where the
information is processed and archived. This data is later
published in the Texas Climatic Data Pubication for Henderson.

In addition to receiving the Holm Award,
Ms. Barnes also received letters of recognition
from members of the state and federal government.
