ICE STORM DECEMBER 25 - 26, 2000
This was a devastating freezing rain/ice storm event for northeast Texas,
southwest Arkansas, and southeast Oklahoma with widespread power
outages and travel problems. At one point, much of the city of Texarkana
was without power, telephone and water. Ice accumulations were estimated
by observers to be as much as an inch in southwest Arkansas. There was a
very narrow (~ 20 miles) zone from no icing to significant icing conditions
across northeast Texas and northern Louisiana.
