THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF EASTERN AND
CENTRAL MISSOURI AS WELL AS WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST ILLINOIS.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT

THUNDERSTORMS ARE LIKELY THIS MORNING ACROSS PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST
MISSOURI AND WEST CENTRAL ILLINOIS. THERE IS A CHANCE FOR
THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON. NO
ORGANIZED SEVERE WEATHER IS CURRENTLY ANTICIPATED.

A DANGEROUS COMBINATION OF HEAT AND HUMIDITY WILL BUILD ACROSS
MUCH OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN MISSOURI AS WELL AS SOUTHWEST ILLINOIS
THIS AFTERNOON. AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING AND HEAT ADVISORY HAS
BEEN ISSUED FOR HEAT INDEX VALUES REACHING OR EXCEEDING 105
DEGREES.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY

THE EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING AND HEAT ADVISORY CONTINUES THURSDAY
THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

THERE IS ANOTHER CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS ON MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH
TUESDAY.

...DANGEROUS HEAT AND HUMIDITY EXPECTED ACROSS MUCH OF CENTRAL
AND EASTERN MISSOURI AS WELL AS SOUTHWEST ILLINOIS...

.HEAT AND HUMIDITY WILL BUILD ACROSS THE AREA FOR THE REMAINDER OF
THIS WEEK AND INTO THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. THESE HIGH LEVELS OF HEAT
AND HUMIDITY WILL FEEL OPPRESSIVE BECAUSE THIS SUMMER HAS BEEN
RELATIVELY COOL. THE LENGTH OF THIS HEAT WAVE WILL MAKE IT
ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO AIR
CONDITIONING. ALTHOUGH THE ENTIRE AREA WILL EXPERIENCE THESE HOT
AND HUMID CONDITIONS...THE GREATEST IMPACT WILL BE FELT IN THE
URBAN HEAT ISLAND OF THE ST LOUIS METRO AREA.

* TIMING...DANGEROUS LEVELS OF HEAT AND HUMIDITY WILL CONTINUE FOR
  THE REST OF THE WEEK AND INTO THE UPCOMING WEEKEND.

* HEAT INDEX VALUES...UP TO 106.

* IMPACTS...THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH
  HUMIDITY WILL LIKELY LEAD TO AN INCREASED RISK OF HEAT-
  RELATED STRESS AND ILLNESS. THE VERY YOUNG... THE ELDERLY...
  THOSE WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING...AND THOSE PARTICIPATING IN
  STRENUOUS OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES WILL BE THE MOST SUSCEPTIBLE.
  ALSO...CAR INTERIORS CAN REACH LETHAL TEMPERATURES IN A MATTER
  OF MINUTES. BEAT THE HEAT... CHECK THE BACKSEAT! NEVER LEAVE
  CHILDREN OR PETS UNATTENDED IN A VEHICLE...NOT EVEN FOR A
  MINUTE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO THE EARLY MORNING
OR EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND
HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN
POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY
HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE
IS AN EMERGENCY. CALL 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY.
