WEST CENTRAL MISSOURI...AS WELL AS EXTREME EASTERN KANSAS.

.DAY ONE...TONIGHT

HEAT INDEX VALUES DURING THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY
EVENING WILL RANGE BETWEEN 100-107 DEGREES ACROSS EASTERN KANSAS AND
WESTERN MISSOURI.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY

SATURDAY AFTERNOON HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL RANGE BETWEEN 100 TO 105
DEGREES...ESPECIALLY ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE MISSOURI RIVER.

A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE OVER THE ENTIRE
REGION SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND NIGHT. THE BEST CHANCES WILL RESIDE
OVER NORTHERN AND NORTH CENTRAL MISSOURI. WHERE STORMS ARE ABLE TO
DEVELOP...THEY WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME STRONG TO SEVERE.
THE PRIMARY SEVERE WEATHER THREAT WOULD BE ISOLATED LARGE HAIL AND
DAMAGING WINDS.

SATURDAY. A HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THIS
EVENING.

* TEMPERATURE: AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES CLIMBING INTO THE MIDDLE AND
  UPPER 90S COMBINED WITH HIGH HUMIDITY LEVELS WILL RESULT IN HEAT
  INDICES BETWEEN 103 AND 108. SIMILAR CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED
  SATURDAY WITH HEAT INDICES AROUND 105.

* IMPACTS: THOSE EXPOSED TO THE DANGEROUS HEAT AND HIGH HUMIDITY
  OVER A PROLONGED PERIOD COULD RESULT IN AN INCREASED RISK TO
  HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES. CARS CAN REACH LETHAL TEMPERATURES IN
  A MATTER OF MINUTES. NEVER LEAVE CHILDREN OR PETS UNATTENDED
  IN A VEHICLE...NOT EVEN FOR A MINUTE.

THE MID-AMERICA REGIONAL COUNCIL HAS ISSUED AN AIR QUALITY
ALERT...IN EFFECT FOR SATURDAY JULY 26. OUTDOOR AIR QUALITY
INDEX...OR AQI...VALUES IN EXCESS OF 100 ARE EXPECTED WITH OZONE
BEING THE PRIMARY POLLUTANT.

PEOPLE AND BUSINESSES ARE URGED TO AVOID ACTIVITIES WHICH LEAD
TO OZONE FORMATION. THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE REFUELING VEHICLES
OR TOPPING OFF WHEN REFUELING IDLING VEHICLES UNNECESSARILY AND
USING GASOLINE POWERED LAWN EQUIPMENT. POSITIVE ACTIVITIES
INCLUDE CARPOOLING BIKING TO WORK DELAYING OR COMBINING ERRANDS
AND USING WATER-BASED PAINTS AND CLEANERS.

WHEN POLLUTION LEVELS ARE ELEVATED...THE MID-AMERICA REGIONAL
COUNCIL RECOMMENDS THAT INDIVIDUALS CONSIDER LIMITING STRENUOUS
OUTDOOR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ADVERSE HEALTH
EFFECTS. PEOPLE WHO MAY BE ESPECIALLY SENSITIVE TO THE EFFECTS
OF ELEVATED LEVELS OF POLLUTANTS INCLUDE THE VERY YOUNG...AND
THOSE WITH PRE-EXISTING RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS SUCH AS ASTHMA OR
HEART DISEASE. THOSE WITH SYMPTOMS SHOULD CONSIDER CONSULTING
THEIR PERSONAL PHYSICIAN.
