...GUSTY SANTA ANA WINDS WILL BRING HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS WITH
EXTREME FIRE DANGER TO SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA SATURDAY THROUGH
MONDAY...

THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT SANTA ANA WIND EVENT FOR THE SEASON IS
EXPECTED ACROSS SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA SATURDAY THROUGH
MONDAY...WITH THE GREATEST IMPACTS ACROSS LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA
COUNTIES. SANTA ANA WINDS WILL BEGIN TO INCREASE ACROSS THE AREA
ON SATURDAY...THEN PEAK LATE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY. DURING
THIS TIME...THE MOUNTAINS OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES
COULD SEE WIND GUSTS IN THE 45 TO 55 MPH RANGE...WHILE COASTAL AND
VALLEY AREAS WILL GENERALLY HAVE GUSTS IN THE 35 TO 45 MPH RANGE.

THIS SANTA ANA WIND EVENT IS EXPECTED TO BRING AN EXTENDED PERIOD
OF HOT AND DRY WEATHER TO THE REGION. HIGH TEMPERATURES AWAY FROM
THE BEACHES WILL GENERALLY BE IN THE 90S ON SATURDAY...THEN CLIMB
TO BETWEEN 95 AND 105 DEGREES ON SUNDAY AND MONDAY. AT THIS
TIME...IT DOES NOT APPEAR THAT CRITICAL HEAT WARNING THRESHOLDS
WILL BE MET WITH THIS EVENT DUE TO THE VERY DRY AIR MASS.
HOWEVER...THE DURATION OF THIS HEAT EVENT WILL BRING HEAT-RELATED
IMPACTS TO THE VALLEYS AND MANY PORTIONS OF THE COASTAL
PLAIN...ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT DO NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING.
VERY WARM OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE 70S TO LOWER 80S CAN BE EXPECTED
ACROSS THE FOOTHILLS AND WIND PRONE LOCATIONS...ADDING TO THE
HEAT DISCOMFORT.

THE GUSTY SANTA ANA WINDS WILL ALSO BRING WIDESPREAD HUMIDITIES
IN THE SINGLE DIGIT AND TEENS. THE CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
CONDITIONS COMBINED WITH THE EXTREMELY DRY FUELS WILL PLACE MUCH
OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES UNDER EXTREME FIRE DANGER
THROUGH MONDAY. FOR MORE DETAILS...PLEASE REFER TO THE LATEST RED
FLAG WARNING PRODUCT.

THE HOT TEMPERATURES WILL CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT
ILLNESSES WILL BE POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY FOR THE ELDERLY AND
CHILDREN. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY OUT OF THE SUN DURING PEAK
HEATING...AND NEVER LEAVE KIDS OR PETS IN VEHICLES AS TEMPERATURES
CAN QUICKLY REACH VERY DANGEROUS LEVELS.
