SATURDAY FOR THE CHENA RIVER UPSTREAM OF THE MOOSE CREEK DAM...

SCATTERED RAIN SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE EAST ACROSS THE AREA
THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS. THE RAIN SHOWERS WILL BE MIXED WITH
SNOW ABOVE 1500 FEET. RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL BE FROM A TRACE TO A
SEVERAL HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH. NO SNOW ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED
AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS.

...THE FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 200 PM AKDT SATURDAY
FOR THE CHENA RIVER UPSTREAM OF THE MOOSE CREEK DAM...

OVER TWO INCHES OF RAIN FELL ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE CHENA RIVER
BASIN BETWEN TUESDAY AND THURSDAY. THE RAINFALL HAS CAUSED THE UPPER
CHENA RIVER TO RISE ABOVE FLOOD STAGE. THIS CREST OF HIGH WATER WILL
MOVE DOWNRIVER THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING.

THE CHENA RIVER AT THE GRANITE TORS CAMPGROUND CRESTED AROUND 5AM
FRIDAY MORNING AT 20.5 FEET...WHICH IS ALMOST 1 FOOT ABOVE MINOR
FLOOD STAGE. THE CHENA RIVER AT THE GRANITE TORS CAMPGROUND IS
FORECAST TO FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. THE CHENA
RIVER AT HUNTS CREEK CRESTED AROUND 11 PM FRIDAY EVENING AT 17.5
FEET WHICH IS JUST ABOVE MINOR FLOOD STAGE. THE CHENA RIVER AT HUNTS
CREEK IS FORECAST TO FALL BELOW MINOR FLOOD STAGE SATURDAY MORNING.
THE CHENA RIVER AT FAIRBANKS WILL REMAIN BELOW FLOOD STAGE.

THE US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS ALASKA DISTRICT ANTICIPATES OPERATING
THE MOOSE CREEK DAM BEGINNING FRIDAY NIGHT AND CONTINUING THROUGH
SATURDAY EVENING AUGUST 29TH. THE MOOSE CREEK DAM WILL BE REGULATING
THE CHENA RIVER SO FLOWS DO NOT EXCEED 12 THOUSAND CUBIC FEET PER
SECOND IN DOWNTOWN FAIRBANKS.

EXPECTED IMPACTS: THE ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION REPORTS
SEVERAL INCHES OF WATER OVER THE ROAD AT MILE 36.9 CHENA HOT SPRINGS
ROAD. WATER IS ALSO INUNDATING THE STILES CREEK SHOOTING RANGE
...PORTIONS OF THE ROSEHIP CAMPGROUND...AND THE COMPEAU TRAILHEAD.
WATER LEVELS IN THE CHENA RECREATION AREA WILL GRADUALLY FALL
THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

RECREATIONAL USERS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR HIGH WATER WHICH MAY CAUSE
LEVELS TO RISE OUT OF BANK IN PLACES. WATCH FOR AN INCREASE IN LOGS
AND OTHER DEBRIS IN THE RIVER. ADDITIONALLY...AN INCREASE IN THE
LEVEL OF GROUNDWATER TABLE IS EXPECTED.

A FLOOD ADVISORY MEANS RIVER OR STREAM FLOWS ARE ELEVATED...OR
PONDING OF WATER IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO
TRAVEL ACROSS FLOODED ROADS. FIND ALTERNATE ROUTES. IT TAKES ONLY A
FEW INCHES OF SWIFTLY FLOWING WATER TO CARRY VEHICLES AWAY.
