WEATHER SUMMARY FOR THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
440 AM AST THU APR 17 2014

SKIES WERE PARTLY CLOUDY OVER THE LOCAL ISLANDS AND SURROUNDING
WATERS DURING THE OVERNIGHT AND EARLY MORNING HOURS. SCATTERED
PASSING SHOWERS WERE OBSERVED ACROSS MUCH OF THE LOCAL WATERS
AND OVER THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS. HOWEVER...SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL
AMOUNTS WERE NOT OBSERVED. TEMPERATURES WERE IN THE MID 70S AND
THE WIND WAS FROM THE EAST AT LESS THAN 10 MPH.

AN UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE WILL BUILD OVER THE REGION
THROUGH THURSDAY AND HOLD THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK. IN ADDITION...
SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD NORTH OF THE AREA
THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK. THIS SCENARIO WILL CAUSE THE LOCAL
PRESSURE GRADIENT TO TIGHTEN AND LEAD TO AN INCREASE IN THE EASTERLY
TRADE WINDS THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK. BETTER MOISTURE TRANSPORT
CAN BE EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS...THEREFORE EARLY MORNING
PASSING SHOWERS WILL AFFECT MAINLY THE EAST COASTAL SECTIONS OF
THE ISLANDS. THIS COMBINED WITH DIURNAL HEATING AND SEA BREEZE
CONVERGENCE WILL LEAD TO AFTERNOON SHOWER DEVELOPMENT EACH DAY
PARTICULARLY ACROSS PARTS OF THE INTERIOR SECTIONS OF THE ISLAND.

ACROSS THE COASTAL WATERS...EASTERLY WINDS UP TO 20 KNOTS AND SEAS
UP TO 7 FEET ARE EXPECTED TODAY. SMALL CRAFT ADVISORIES WILL BE IN
EFFECT LATER TODAY FOR MOST OF THE LOCAL WATERS.
