HYDROLOGIC STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GAYLORD MI
440 PM EST MON JAN 5 2015

FOR THE MANISTEE RIVER...THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS ARE INCLUDED:
SHERMAN.

AN ICE JAM HAS DEVELOPED ON THE MANISTEE RIVER...DOWNSTREAM OF THE
SHERMAN GAGE. RIVER LEVELS AT SHERMAN HAVE RISEN SHARPLY TODAY. A
MANUAL READING AT THE GAGE AT 4 PM INDICATED A LEVEL OF 14.3 FEET.
FLOOD STAGE IS 15 FEET.

RIVER LEVELS ARE UNPREDICTABLE WHEN ICE JAMS DEVELOP. CONSIDERABLE
FLUCTUATIONS WILL OCCUR UNTIL THE ICE JAM IS GONE. A FLOOD WARNING
WILL BE NEEDED FOR THE MANISTEE RIVER AT SHERMAN IF IT CONTINUES
TO RISE.

PERSONS IN FLOOD-PRONE AREAS ALONG THE MANISTEE RIVER NEAR SHERMAN
SHOULD CLOSELY MONITOR RIVER LEVELS TODAY AND TONIGHT.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GAYLORD WILL CLOSELY MONITOR RIVER
LEVELS...AND WILL ISSUE ADDITIONAL STATEMENTS OR WARNINGS AS
CONDITIONS WARRANT.
