...STORM SURVEY FOR JULY 26 STORM IN PHOENIX...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PHOENIX CONDUCTED A STORM SURVEY FOR
THE STORM THAT IMPACTED NORTH PHOENIX ON SATURDAY JULY 26. THE AREA
SURVEYED STRETCHED FROM CACTUS ROAD NORTH TO UNION HILLS DRIVE...AND
CAVE CREEK ROAD EAST TO TATUM ROAD. WIDESPREAD DAMAGE WAS NOTED WITH
NUMEROUS TREES DOWN THROUGHOUT THE AREA. SOME TREES EXCEEDED TWO
FEET IN DIAMETER WITH MANY UPROOTED. A NUMBER OF POWER POLES AND
UTILITY LIGHT POLES WERE KNOCKED DOWN. IN SOME CASES...EVEN STREET
LIGHTS WERE STRIPPED OFF OF STANDING POWER POLES. ROOF DAMAGE WAS
NOTED ON MANY HOMES AND IN SOME CASES ROOF ATTACHMENTS SUCH AS SOLAR
PANELS...AWNINGS...AND PORCHES WERE BLOWN OFF.

THE AREA IMPACTED WAS ABOUT THREE AND HALF MILES BY THREE AND A HALF
MILES...OR APPROXIMATELY 12 SQUARE MILES. MOST DAMAGE WAS CONSISTENT
WITH WIND SPEEDS 50 TO 70 MPH. HOWEVER...THERE WERE SEVERAL POCKETS
OF MORE SEVERE DAMAGE...MOST NOTABLY ALONG GREENWAY PARKWAY BETWEEN
40TH STREET AND TATUM BOULEVARD...40TH STREET AND UNION HILLS
DRIVE...AND IN PARADISE VALLEY PARK. MOST FALLEN STRUCTURES WERE
BLOWN TOWARDS THE WEST OR SOUTHWEST...INDICATIVE OF VERY STRONG
STRAIGHT LINE WINDS.

DAMAGE WAS QUITE WIDESPREAD...INDICATIVE OF A MACROBURST FROM A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AND THIS IS ALSO CONFIRMED THROUGH POST ANALYSIS
OF ONE MINUTE TERMINAL DOPPLER WEATHER RADAR.
