PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PEACHTREE CITY GA
300 AM EST FRI DEC 05 2014

...WINTER WEATHER PREPAREDNESS WEEK...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IS OBSERVING THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 1
THROUGH 5 2014 AS WINTER WEATHER PREPAREDNESS WEEK IN THE STATE OF
GEORGIA. EACH DAY THIS WEEK WE DISCUSS A DIFFERENT ASPECT OF WINTER
WEATHER. TODAY WE WILL DISCUSS THE OUTLOOK FOR THE 2014 TO 2015
WINTER SEASON.

LAST YEAR... A NEUTRAL PATTERN INFLUENCED WEATHER ACROSS THE UNITED
STATES... WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE AN EXCEPTIONALLY COLD WINTER FOR
MUCH OF THE COUNTRY.

THIS WINTER... THE ON-GOING NEUTRAL PATTERN IS EXPECTED TO GRADUALLY
TRANSITION INTO A WEAK EL NINO PATTERN BY MID TO LATE WINTER. THIS
PATTERN GENERALLY RESULTS IN A MIX OF BOTH COOL PACIFIC FRONTAL
SYSTEMS AND THE COLDER POLAR FRONTAL SYSTEMS FREQUENTLY PUSHING
ACROSS THE STATE DURING THE WINTER MONTHS.

AS A RESULT... THE CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER IS FORECASTING A
SLIGHTLY COOLER THAN NORMAL AND WETTER THAN NORMAL WINTER ACROSS
MUCH OF THE SOUTHEAST... TO INCLUDE GEORGIA.

WITH ALL THIS IN MIND... A NEUTRAL TO WEAK EL NINO WINTER WEATHER
PATTERN CAN SOMETIMES BE VERY ACTIVE... RESULTING IN THE OCCASIONAL
EPISODE OF LIGHT OR EVEN MODERATE SNOW... ICE OR A WINTRY MIX.

REGARDLESS OF THE SEASONAL FORECAST FOR THE WINTER... IT IS
IMPORTANT TO PREPARE EVERY YEAR FOR THE THREAT OF SNOW AND ICE
STORMS... AND NOW IS THE TIME TO PREPARE FOR THE 2014 TO 2015 WINTER
SEASON.
