...DALLAS/FORT WORTH CLIMATE NARRATIVE FOR AUGUST 2014...

ALTHOUGH THE MEAN TEMPERATURE JUNE THROUGH AUGUST WAS NEAR THE
30-YEAR NORMAL...2014 WAS THE COOLEST SUMMER FOR DALLAS/FORT WORTH
SINCE RAINY 2004. THERE HAVE BEEN ONLY 14 TRIPLE-DIGIT HIGH
TEMPERATURES SO FAR IN 2014...THE FEWEST AT THIS POINT IN A CALENDAR
YEAR SINCE 2007 (ANOTHER WET SUMMER). THE 2014 TOTAL REMAINS BELOW
THE 30-YEAR AVERAGE OF 18 DAYS.

PORTIONS OF THE DALLAS/FORT WORTH METROPLEX RECEIVED LESS THAN AN
INCH OF RAIN DURING THE MONTH...BUT FOR DFW AIRPORT...IT WAS THE
WETTEST AUGUST SINCE 1996. MUCH OF THE MONTHLY TOTAL FELL IN A
24-HOUR PERIOD...THE AIRPORT TALLIED 2.85 INCHES AUGUST 16-17. (THIS
IS THE GREATEST 24-HOUR PRECIPITATION TOTAL SINCE 3.26 INCHES FELL
JANUARY 8-9 OF 2013.) AUGUST WAS THE FIRST MONTH OF 2014 WITH ABOVE
NORMAL PRECIPITATION AT DFW AIRPORT.
