PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT...CORRECTION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORT WORTH TX

...DALLAS/FORT WORTH CLIMATE NARRATIVE FOR DECEMBER 2014...

MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURES WERE ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE MONTH OF
DECEMBER BUT WE DID HAVE TWO COLD SNAPS...ONE AT THE BEGINNING OF
THE MONTH AND ANOTHER NEAR THE END OF THE MONTH. SOME LIGHT
SNOW...GENERALLY A TRACE TO NEARLY AN INCH...FELL NORTH OF A LINE
FROM BRECKENRIDGE TO BOWIE ON DECEMBER 27TH. FREEZING RAIN...AND A
LITTLE SLEET...FELL MAINLY WEST OF I-35 ON THE LAST DAY OF THE MONTH
BUT AMOUNTS WERE LIGHT.

ALTHOUGH IT WAS CLOUDY DECEMBER...RAINFALL WAS GENERALLY
LIGHTER THAN NORMAL WITH MOST LOCATIONS RECEIVING LESS THAN
THREE-QUARTERS THEIR NORMAL MONTHLY RAINFALL. MANY AREAS RECEIVED
LESS THAN HALF OF THEIR MONTHLY NORMALS.

SOME WEATHER EVENTS OF INTEREST ACROSS NORTH AND CENTRAL TEXAS
DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER...
DENSE FOG BLANKETED THE AREA SOUTH OF I-20 AND WEST OF I-35
DECEMBER 4TH. DENSE FOG ALSO COVERED MOST OF NORTH AND CENTRAL
TEXAS DURING THE MORNINGS OF DECEMBER 9TH AND 10TH.

FOR DALLAS/FORT WORTH...THERE WAS PRECIPITATION RECORDED ON 16 DAYS
OUT OF THE 31 DAYS OF THE MONTH OF DECEMBER WHICH TIES FOR THE
FOURTH GREATEST NUMBER OF PRECIPITATION DAYS ON RECORD. HOWEVER...7
OF THOSE DAYS ONLY HAD A TRACE. TOTAL RAINFALL FOR THE MONTH WAS
1.13 INCHES WHICH WAS ONLY 44 PERCENT OF THE NORMAL 2.55 INCHES.
THIS DID NOT HELP THE LONG-TERM DROUGHT AS WE HAVE HAD ONLY 73
PERCENT OF OUR NORMAL PRECIPITATION FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS
(JANUARY 1ST 2010 THROUGH DECEMBER 31ST 2014).
