THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STATE COLLEGE HAS CONFIRMED A
MICROBURST /STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE/ IN SOUTH ANNVILLE TOWNSHIP
IN LEBANON COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA ON JULY 27 2014.

THE STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE WAS MOST CONCENTRATED JUST NORTH OF
U.S. 322 FROM MT. PLEASANT ROAD TO SR 934 (S WHITE OAK STREET).
DAMAGE CONSISTED OF A PORTION OF A ROOF OFF A FARM HOUSE...MINOR
STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO SEVERAL FARM/OUTBUILDINGS AND NUMEROUS TREES
SNAPPED OFF OR KNOCKED DOWN.

THIS INFORMATION CAN ALSO BE FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE AT

FOR REFERENCE...
A MICROBURST IS A CONVECTIVE DOWNDRAFT WITH AN AFFECTED OUTFLOW
AREA OF LESS THAN 2 1/2 MILES WIDE AND PEAK WINDS LASTING LESS
THAN 5 MINUTES. MICROBURSTS MAY INDUCE DANGEROUS HORIZONTAL/VERTICAL
WIND SHEARS...WHICH CAN ADVERSELY AFFECT AIRCRAFT PERFORMANCE AND
CAUSE PROPERTY DAMAGE. STRAIGHT-LINE WINDS ARE GENERALLY ANY WIND
THAT IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH ROTATION...USED MAINLY TO DIFFERENTIATE
THEM FROM TORNADIC WINDS.
