...WACO CLIMATE NARRATIVE FOR JUNE 2014...

JUNE WAS THE 9TH CONSECUTIVE MONTH WITH A BELOW NORMAL MEAN
TEMPERATURE AT WACO. THROUGH THE END OF JUNE...IT WAS THE COOLEST
START TO A YEAR SINCE 1997. THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE FOR THE YEAR
TO DATE (JANUARY 1 TO JUNE 30) WAS THE 2ND COOLEST ON RECORD.

THROUGH JUNE 30...THE MERCURY HAD YET TO REACH 95 DEGREES IN 2014.
JULY 8 IS THE LATEST ON RECORD FOR THE FIRST 95-DEGREE DAY.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IMPACTED WACO ON JUNE 22. THE PEAK GUST AT WACO
REGIONAL AIRPORT WAS 59 MPH...THE STRONGEST WIND MEASURED AT THE
SITE SINCE FEBRUARY 2013. NEARLY 4 INCHES OF RAIN (3.85 INCHES) FELL
IN JUST 42 MINUTES. THE TORRENTIAL RAINFALL QUICKLY FLOODED ROADS...
CLAIMING THE LIFE OF A MOTORIST IN WACO.

THE 24-HOUR TOTAL FOR THE EVENT WAS 4.39 INCHES. THIS WAS THE 6TH
TIME IN THE LAST 4 YEARS THAT WACO HAS HAD AT LEAST 4 INCHES OF
PRECIPITATION IN 24 HOURS...AND THE 10TH TIME WITH AT LEAST 3 INCHES.
(THREE OF THESE EVENTS ARE AMONG THE GREATEST 24-HOUR TOTALS ON
RECORD FOR WACO.)
