FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
253 PM PDT WED JUL 23 2014

...WETTING RAINS OCCURRING MOST AREAS TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING...
...RETURNING TO HOT...DRY...UNSTABLE CONDITIONS BY THE WEEKEND...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...BY THIS AFTERNOON MOST WEATHER STATIONS ACROSS
SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON AND NORTHWEST OREGON HAD REPORTED WETTING RAINS.
THE COLD FRONT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS RAIN WILL MOVE ACROSS THE CASCADES
LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING...WITH MORE SHOWERS AND ISOLATED WET
THUNDERSTORMS BEHIND THE FRONT. A SECONDARY DISTURBANCE WILL SWING
THROUGH TONIGHT AND EARLY THURSDAY FOR MORE SHOWERS. AFTER THAT...EXPECT
A MAJOR WARMUP BY THIS WEEKEND DUE TO A STRENGTHENING UPPER LEVEL RIDGE.

.DISCUSSION...A STEADY...SOAKING RAIN HAS BEEN FALLING ACROSS MUCH OF
SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON AND NORTHWEST OREGON TODAY...WITH MOST RAWS STATIONS
IN THE AREA ALREADY REPORTING ONE QUARTER INCH AND MORE RAIN TO COME. ON
AVERAGE 0.25 TO 0.50 INCH OF RAIN HAS FALLEN ACROSS THE DISTRICT. HOWEVER
SOME LOCATIONS ALONG THE NORTH OREGON COAST AND COAST RANGE HAVE RECEIVED
MORE THAN AN INCH. THE COLD FRONT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS RAIN IS BEGINNING
TO ACCELERATE EASTWARD...AND SHOULD MOVE ACROSS THE CASCADE CREST BY THIS
EVENING. BEHIND THE COLD FRONT...COLDER AIR ALOFT MAY SUPPORT ENOUGH
INSTABILITY FOR THUNDERSTORMS...ESPECIALLY WHERE ANY SUNBREAKS DEVELOP
THIS AFTERNOON. THE MAIN LOW PRESSURE CENTER WILL MOVE ONSHORE NEAR THE
WASHINGTON/OREGON BORDER TONIGHT AND EARLY THURSDAY MORNING...KEEPING
SHOWERS AROUND INTO THURSDAY. SHOWERS WILL TAPER OFF FROM SOUTH TO NORTH
THURSDAY...WITH MORE SUNSHINE POSSIBLE FOR OUR SOUTHERN ZONES. A MAJOR
WARMING AND DRYING TREND BEGINS FRIDAY AS THE UPPER LOW DEPARTS AND A
STRONG UPPER RIDGE BUILDS NORTHWEST FROM THE GREAT BASIN. A SUBSIDENCE
INVERSION IS POSSIBLE FRIDAY NIGHT YIELDING VERY POOR HUMIDITY RECOVERY
FOR THE HIGHER CASCADE RIDGETOPS. AN INCREASINGLY UNSTABLE AIR MASS IS
LIKELY THIS WEEKEND AS THE HOTTER WEATHER PROMOTES A THERMAL TROUGH OVER
THE WILLAMETTE VALLEY. ADDITIONALLY...A WEAK DISTURBANCE MAY INCORPORATE
SOME MONSOON MOISTURE FOR A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS SUNDAY OR SUNDAY
NIGHT. WEAGLE
