..ANOTHER WARM MONTH IN KOTZEBUE...

SEPTEMBER 2014 WAS WARMER AND WETTER THAN NORMAL THAN NORMAL IN KOTZEBUE. THE
PATTERN STARTED OUT WITH A TROUGH OVER NORTHWEST AK AND A RIDGE OVER SW AK.
THE REMNANT LOW FROM A TROPICAL THAT IMPACTED JAPAN MERGED WITH A LOW IN
THE SOUTHERN BERING SEA AND WOBBLED AROUND BRINGING WARM PACIFIC AIR TO THE
AREA.THIS LEAD TO A COUPLE OF DAYS OF ONE NEW HIGH TEMPERATURE...ONE HIGH
MINIMUM TEMPERATURE RECORD BROKE WITH ANOTHER RECORD TIED  OVER THE AREA
DURING THE SECOND WEEK OF THE MONTH. A LONG WAVE TROUGH SETUP OVER TWO
THIRDS OF THE STATE DURING THE THIRD WEEK OF THE MONTH. THE FOURTH WEEK
STARTED WITH A COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE THROUGH THE AREA.THE FINAL THREE DAYS
SAW THE PASSAGE OF A COLD FRONT ON THE 28TH.THE REMAINING TWO DAYS SAW A
COUPLE OF SHORT WAVES ROTATING AROUND A LOW NEAR BARROW...PROVIDING FOR SMALL
AMOUNTS OF PRECIPITATION.


TEMPERATURES...THE AVERAGE DAILY MAXIMUM...AVERAGE DAILY MINIMUM...AVERAGE DAILY
TEMPERATURE WERE AGAIN ABOVE THE MONTHLY AVERAGES. THE DAILY MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE
WAS THE 13TH WARMEST IN STATION HISTORY...WHILE THE DAILY MINIMUM WAS THE 12TH
WARMEST IN STATION HISTORY. THE DAILY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS THE 10TH WARMEST IN
STATION HISTORY.

9/12/14-NEW HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 65 DEGREES BREAKING THE OLD RECORD OF 61 DEGREES
SET BACK IN 1961. NEW HIGH MINIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 51 DEGREES BREAKING THE OLD
RECORD OF 50 DEGREES SET BACK IN 2010.

9/13/2014-HIGH MINIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 52 DEGREES TIED THE RECORD SET BACK IN 1933.

PRECIPITATION...SEPTEMBER 2014 WAS ALSO ABOVE NORMAL FOR PRECIPITATION WITH THE
VILLAGE RECEIVING .23 INCHES ABOVE THE AVERAGE PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH. THERE
WERE NO NEW PRECIPITATION RECORDS SET FOR THE MONTH.
