.MARCH 2014 WAS COLDER AND WETTER THAN NORMAL AT DULUTH MN...

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR MARCH WAS 18.4 DEGREES WHICH WAS 7.5
DEGREES COLDER THAN THE NORMAL OF 25.9 DEGREES MAKING THIS THE 17TH
COLDEST MARCH IN STATION HISTORY. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR THE
MONTH WAS 52 DEGREES ON THE 10TH. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE WAS 23
DEGREES BELOW ZERO ON THE 2ND AND 3RD. ONE DAILY TEMPERATURE RECORD
WAS BROKEN FOR THE MONTH. A LOW TEMPERATURE OF 23 DEGREES BELOW ZERO
WAS RECORDED ON THE 3RD BREAKING THE OLD RECORD OF 21 BELOW ZERO SET
IN 1982.

MARCH 2014 WAS WETTER THAN NORMAL WITH A TOTAL OF 1.91 INCHES OF
PRECIPITATION RECORDED FOR THE MONTH. THIS WAS 0.42 INCHES ABOVE THE
NORMAL OF 1.49 INCH TYING THIS FOR THE 45TH WETTEST MARCH IN
RECORDED HISTORY. THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF PRECIPITATION IN A 24 HOUR
PERIOD OCCURRED ON THE 27TH WHEN 0.61 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS
RECORDED. AT LEAST A TRACE OF PRECIPITATION WAS REPORTED ON 20 DAYS.
AT LEAST 0.01 INCH OF PRECIPITATION FELL ON 11 DAYS. AT LEAST 0.10
INCHES FELL ON 4 DAYS. AT LEAST 0.50 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS
RECORDED ON 2 DAYS. 20.9 INCHES OF SNOW FELL FOR THE MONTH. THIS WAS
7.7 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 13.2 INCHES TYING THIS FOR THE 19TH

WERE BROKE FOR THE MONTH. ONE DAILY SNOWFALL RECORD WAS SET IN THE
MONTH. 6.9 INCHES OF SNOW FELL ON THE 21ST BREAKING THE OLD RECORD
OF 4.9 INCHES SET IN 1949.

THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR THE MONTH WAS 10.8 MPH. THE WINDIEST DAY
FOR THE MONTH WAS ON THE 31ST WITH AN AVERAGE WIND SPEED OF 19.2 MPH.
THE GREATEST SUSTAINED WINDS OCCURRED ON THE 31ST WITH A WIND FROM
THE EAST AT 31 MPH. A PEAK GUST OF 38 MPH FROM THE EAST WAS RECORDED
ON THE 31ST. THERE WERE 1439 HEATING DEGREE DAYS FOR THE MONTH WHICH
WAS 229 ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 1210. THIS BROUGHT THE SEASONAL TOTAL TO
8880 WHICH WAS 803 ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 8077. THERE WERE 0 COOLING
DEGREE DAYS FOR THE MONTH WHICH WAS NORMAL. THE SEASONAL TOTAL
COOLING DEGREE DAYS IS 0 WHICH IS NORMAL. THE HIGHEST BAROMETRIC
PRESSURE READING FOR THE MONTH WAS 30.59 INCHES REACHED ON THE 5TH
AND THE LOWEST BAROMETRIC PRESSURE READING WAS 29.42 INCHES REACHED
ON THE 14TH.

THE OUTLOOK FOR APRIL...NORMAL HIGHS FOR THE MONTH BEGIN IN THE
LOWER 40S AND END THE MONTH IN THE MID 50S. NORMAL LOWS FOR THE
MONTH START IN THE MID 20S AND WARM TO THE MID 30S AT THE END OF THE
MONTH. NORMAL PRECIPITATION FOR APRIL IS 2.43 INCHES. NORMAL
SNOWFALL FOR THE MONTH IS 6.9 INCHES. COOLER THAN NORMAL
TEMPERATURES AND NEAR NORMAL PRECIPITATION ARE FORECASTED FOR APRIL.
