...WETTER THAN NORMAL AUGUST...

AUGUST STARTED OFF DRY AND WARM BUT THAT WAS VERY SHORT LIVED. THE
TOTAL MONTHLY RAINFALL WAS 8.53 INCHES WHICH IS 2.8 INCHES ABOVE
NORMAL. THIS MADE IT THE 9TH WETTEST AUGUST ON RECORD. THERE WERE TWO
DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORDS BROKEN DURING THE MONTH. THE 9TH HAD 0.99
INCHES OF RAIN BEATING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 0.8 INCHES SET IN 1990.
THE 10TH BROKE THE 1944 RECORD OF 1.04 INCHES WITH A DRENCHING TOTAL OF
1.53 INCHES.

THE TEMPERATURES FOR THE MONTH WERE ONLY SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL WITH NO
SIGNIFICANT RECORDS BEING BROKEN. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 56.8
DEGREES WHICH IS ONLY 0.9 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE AVERAGE HIGH WAS
JUST A SMIDGEN ABOVE NORMAL AT 62.8 DEGREES. HIGHEST TEMPERATURE WAS 77
DEGREES ON THE 2ND AND 3RD. THE AVERAGE LOW WAS 1.8 DEGREES ABOVE
NORMAL AT 50.7 DEGREES. THIS IS THE 2ND WARMEST AVERAGE MINIMUM
TEMPERATURE ON RECORD FOR AUGUST. THE LOW FOR THE MONTH OCCURRED ON THE
20TH AND 21ST AT 44 DEGREES.

WINDS DURING THE MONTH AVERAGED 8.2 MPH PRIMARILY FROM THE SOUTHEAST.
THE MAXIMUM WIND SPEED AT THE AIRPORT OCCURRED ON THE 17TH WITH A PEAK
WIND OF 34 MPH FROM THE SOUTHEAST. THE HIGHEST WIND SPEED AT THE
FEDERAL BUILDING THROUGH THE 21ST WAS ON THE 17TH WITH A PEAK WIND OF
32 MPH FROM THE NORTH. DATA IS MISSING FOR THE REST OF THE MONTH.
