           ...TORNADO PREPAREDNESS WEEK IN MISSISSIPPI...
             ...FEBRUARY 9 THROUGH FEBRUARY 13 2015...

THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 9 THROUGH FEBRUARY 13 HAS BEEN DESIGNATED AS
TORNADO PREPAREDNESS WEEK IN MISSISSIPPI. LATE WINTER AND SPRING
MONTHS TYPICALLY BRING THE HIGHEST FREQUENCY OF SEVERE WEATHER TO
THE GULF COAST REGION. TORNADO PREPAREDNESS WEEK IS A GOOD TIME TO
REVIEW SEVERE WEATHER SAFETY PLANS AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A MEANS TO
RECEIVE TIMELY WARNINGS AND KNOW WHAT ACTION TO TAKE IF SEVERE
WEATHER DEVELOPS.

LAST YEAR WAS A QUIET YEAR WITH REGARD TO SEVERE WEATHER IN SOUTHEAST
LOUISIANA AND COASTAL MISSISSIPPI WITH A TOTAL OF ONLY 6 TORNADOES
RECORDED. ALL BUT ONE OF THE TORNADOES WAS WEAK...WITH THE ONLY
STRONG TORNADO ON DECEMBER 23 NEAR AMITE LOUISIANA CAUSING
SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO SEVERAL HOUSES. IN ADDITION...A SEVERE
THUNDERSTORM ON APRIL 8 CAUSED A FEW INJURIES WHEN SEVERAL TRAILERS
WERE OVERTURNED BY THUNDERSTORM WIND GUST ESTIMATED AROUND 80 MPH.
EXPERIENCE HAS SHOWN THAT LIVES CAN BE SAVED IF PEOPLE ARE AWARE OF
THE DANGERS ASSOCIATED WITH TORNADOES AND SEVERE WEATHER...AND ARE
PREPARED TO TAKE QUICK STEPS TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM NATURES MOST
VIOLENT AND UNPREDICTABLE STORMS. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A MEANS TO
RECEIVE WEATHER WARNINGS AND KNOW THE BASIC SAFETY RULES TO PROTECT
YOURSELF FROM SEVERE WEATHER.

ON WEDNESDAY MORNING AROUND 915AM ...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILL
ISSUE A TEST TORNADO WARNING MESSAGE ON THE NOAA WEATHER RADIO SYSTEM TO
ALLOW ORGANIZATIONS TO TEST AND REVIEW THEIR SEVERE WEATHER PLANS AND
ENSURE THEIR NOAA WEATHER RADIOS ARE WORKING PROPERLY. THE TEST MESSAGE
WILL BE CLEARLY WORDED AS A TEST. MANY NOAA WEATHER RADIO MAY NOT SOUND
AN AUDIO ALARM...HOWEVER THEY WILL DISPLAY TEST ON THEIR SCREEN
SIGNIFYING THEY SUCCESSFULLY RECEIVED THE TEST.
