         ..MISSISSIPPI TORNADO PREPAREDNESS WEEK...
          ...FEBRUARY 9 THROUGH FEBRUARY 13 2015...

THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 9 THROUGH FEBRUARY 13 HAS BEEN DESIGNATED AS
TORNADO PREPAREDNESS WEEK IN MISSISSIPPI. LATE WINTER AND SPRING
MONTHS TYPICALLY BRING THE HIGHEST FREQUENCY OF SEVERE WEATHER TO
THE GULF COAST REGION. TORNADO PREPAREDNESS WEEK IS A GOOD TIME TO
REVIEW SEVERE WEATHER SAFETY PLANS AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A MEANS TO
RECEIVE TIMELY WARNINGS AND KNOW WHAT ACTION TO TAKE IF SEVERE
WEATHER DEVELOPS.

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FEATURES OF YOUR SEVERE WEATHER SAFETY
PLAN IS TO HAVE A RELIABLE MEANS TO RECEIVE SEVERE WEATHER
WARNINGS. A BATTERY OPERATED NOAA WEATHER RADIO CAN BE PROGRAMMED
TO AUTOMATICALLY ALARM AND BROADCAST ANY SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
ISSUED FOR YOUR PARISH OR COUNTY.

MANY NEWER CELL PHONES TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE NEW WIRELESS EMERGENCY
ALERT FEATURE. NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TORNADO AND FLASH FLOOD
WARNINGS ARE CURRENTLY SENT THROUGH THIS SYSTEM AND AUTOMATICALLY
ALERT CELL PHONES IN THE WARNED AREA. SPECIAL APPLICATIONS OR
ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE ARE NOT NEEDED AND MESSAGES WILL LOOK VERY
SIMILAR TO TEXT MESSAGES WHEN RECEIVED. THE WIRELESS EMERGENCY
ALERT WEBSITE AND YOUR CELL PHONE SERVICE PROVIDER CAN SUPPLY
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
