National Weather Service/ Amateur Radio Special Event
Date/time: November 27, 1999 from 0000 UTC to 2400 UTC. In local time, that's a 24-hour period from 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 1999 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 1999.
Event: An amateur radio special event, conducted by the National Weather Service in conjunction with the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL).
Purpose: To recognize the public service contributions made by amateur radio operators during severe weather, flood, winter storm, and hurricane events, specifically through their links with and support to the National Weather Service.
Activities: Amateur radio operators will operate on many of the designated amateur bands, including HF, VHF, and UHF, from National Weather Service field offices throughout the U.S. during this event. Nearly 50 offices have already begun preparations to participate. Amateur radio operators are encouraged to contact as many of these participating offices as possible during the 24-hour special event period.
